Company History
kWantera was founded in 2006 to provide a sophisticated sensing capability to US soldiers in dangerous and difficult situations, such as war zone building searches. Formerly called MobileFusion, Inc., we developed a family of portable and rugged remote sensing devices that combined our proprietary software and hardware technology for customers and partners such as the US Army, US Marine Corps and various US intelligence and civilian agencies. The US military valued our software’s ability to collect and analyze high volumes of data and make real-time decisions with high accuracy.
Because of the success of this program, the US Navy asked us to explore the application of our advanced data analytics technology to the equally critical and challenging problem of reducing diesel fuel consumption on forward operating bases (FOBs) in Afghanistan and Iraq -- without compromising operational readiness or performance. We successfully repurposed our advanced data analytics technology to the task of optimizing power consumption on FOBs and thus reducing the need for very dangerous fuel transportation that causes a high percentage of US casualties.
The analysis of massive quantities of real-time data using our machine learning technology has proven effective for reducing power consumption at small, remote military bases. In 2010, we scaled the solution for much larger facilities, adding features such as fast installation, flexible data collection, and an intuitive user interface. We have now deployed the solution to a variety of commercial, industrial and institutional entities, aligning the capabilities with the purchasing of power from utilities. We then added power quality and power trading to our portfolio of applications, greatly enhancing the value we offer to our customers. With the realization of the core technology to solve complex, real-time and predictive problems, some of our customers are now asking us to look beyond electrical power and help them reduce the costs of using other energy sources such as natural gas.
